Work for Papier14

It's been a while since an update.  I've been off taking my licensing exams and experimenting on some new things.  The lastest piece is a full drawing set of an absurd construction.  I have my typical axo's along with floor plans, elevations and detail drawings and it's given the work new dimension.  Looking forward to the next project where I plan on enlisting help from engineers to develop a new structure.  If you are in Montreal this weekend you can see the whole set at Papier 14 between 25-27.  http://www.papiermontreal.com/

New Installation at Convenience Gallery

The installation is up at Convenience Gallery 58 Lansdowne Ave.  It's the first real 1:1 scale installation and I can start to see how I can bring some elements of the drawings into fruition.  I'm hoping this will be the beginning of more larger scale installation work so if you're in the Parkdale area exploring West Queen West please take a look.  It's just two blocks north of Queen at Lansdowne -- drop me a line and tell me what you think!

New York Opening

Here are some pics from the recent show.  Turn out was great and I got a chance to chat with some really swell people.  Shows up till March 23rd so check it our if you are in the New York area.

New Group Show at Nancy Margolis

I'll be down in New York this week for the opening of a group show I'm a part of with artists Rachel Bone, Benrei Huang and Alex Paik.  I'm looking forward to seeing their work.  I've created 6 new pieces for the show which are inline with my recent explorations into architectural redundancy so if you are in the area please stop on in.  The opening is Thursday, February 14th at 6:00 pm at Nancy Margolis Gallery (523 West 25th) but will run through March 23rd. Though I'll concede that my work is not the most ideal for a romantic evening, I'll try to offset this by bringing an assortment of Hershey's kisses -- and maybe a bag of chips.

Crucible/Perfect Community

A while back I was commissioned to do a couple pieces for a small publication that was to accompany a couple of short essays by Tyler Brule and Jonathan Glancey.  Since I had to work with revisions a lot of the drawing was drawn and collaged together in photoshop.  To the left is the original finished piece entitled "The Crucible" and to the right is the final drawing which accompanied Tyler's essay The Perfect Community.

Opening Night

Thanks to everyone who managed to endure the crazy heat and were able to make it out to one of the shows this summer.  The shows at Open Studio and LE gallery are up for the rest of the month so come on down.  I forgot to mention the other works at Openstudio are really great and I'm proud to be sharing space with Amber Albrecht, Jenna Law, and Derek Sullivan.  Here are some shots of the opening nights.    Photocredit:  Openstudio.

Harbourfront Centre: Winter 2012

I have a piece up at the Harbourfront Centre in the exhibition titled "Constructed View".  It is one of seven exhibitions which make up the Harbourfront Centre's winter programming.  There is a lot of really great work so if you get the chance and are looking for something fun to do, have a stop in.  Image Credit: Alex Kisilevich.

The Draftery, Fig. 01

I was recently included in a small publication put out by the Draftery entitled 'the Draftery: Fig.01'.  It features me along with 4 other artists/architects that work within the realm of architectural representation.  I've seen some sneak peaks and the publication looks great.  It is being printed in a limited run of 90 copies so if you happen to like what you see pick one up.  Hopefully this first of a long series of publications that help showcase the work of architecturally trained artists.

New York Exhibition

Just a few shots from the exhibition in New York @ Nancy Margolis Gallery which came down earlier this month.   All the exhibition spaces looked great and I was very happy to share in the event with artists, Erin and Harry.  Thanks to everyone who could make it out.

Summer Closing - Artspin Recap

It's been a hot few months but i'm looking forward to tinkering in the studio this fall without fear of excessive Vitamin D seeping through the window.  I'm working on a few new projects, taking print-making classes this fall, and in prep-mode for a show at LE gallery in the fall.  Hope to have some new images available soon but for now here is some snaps of the recent Artspin show that just came down.  Thanks to everyone who sent an email or were able make it by a show this summer.  Your support is greatly appreciated.  photo credit: artspin

Mausoleum Round 2 @ Artspin

Join me and a host of other artists at 99 sudbury for the 2nd annual Artspin Curated Exhibition.   After walking through it again the other day, I have to say it's a very strong show.   All the artists did a great job and if you're up for a night of art join us for the opening on Thursday, August 25th, 2011.  I don't believe you'll be disappointed.   As the title suggests,  I''ll be exhibiting 'the Mausoleum' again and am looking forward to seeing it in a new setting.  Hope to see you there!

Unstationary Station

The old Whitby Junction has moved twice over the years before it landed at its current resting spot as Whitby's free public art gallery, next to Iroquois Park. Featured Artists Myung-Sun Kim, Edward Lin, Tom Ngo, Kira Varvanina, Charline Wang have created an exhibition that explores the idea of architecture that moves.

Hanged & Drawn

I currently have a new piece up at LE Gallery.  I'm exhibiting with 5 absurdly talented artists whom, i can say,  all draw better than I do.  If you are in the area please check out  1183 Dundas, Toronto.  The show will be on from May 28-June 17.

Create_Destroy

A few weeks back Mani Mani, Will Klassen and I created an installation for Relative Space as part of the Conversations In Design symposium.   Here are a couple of quick pics.   It  is a drawing machine which is centered around the theme of  "Crowdsourcing".   At the entrance, guests were greeted by two stanchions which read Create or Destroy.   Each stanchion was equipped with a sensor that read the participants decision.  If the observer chose 'Create' a coloured pen would be loaded into the machine; if they chose 'Destroy' a black one would be loaded instead. A video will follow shortly which will better explain the piece in motion.   Photo credit: Relative Space.

New Show Opening

New Show this Friday, September 10th at 7pm @ Le Gallery (1183 Dundas)  Hope to see you there.
